AN
INCONVENIENT TRUTH.
A film that is increasing in popularity and addresses the very controversial topic of ‘Global Warming’ is getting much publicity. It has great support from such eminent scientists as the head of science at NASA. The problem of global warming is increasing in its seriousness and concerns being shown.
But it isn’t just global warming that is an inconvenient truth today.
The world of religion is constantly facing situations that challenge the concept of truth. What is truth? asked Pontius Pilate of the Christ. The answer given was “Thy word is truth”, but how do we understand that answer?
There are two obvious thoughts to consider:
Firstly Christ himself as the word of God (or the logos of God) would be truth himself. Thy logos is truth.
Secondly we can say this is speaking of the written word of God, the scriptures, these too are the truth and express the truth.
Christ said in answer to Satan’s time of tempting Him that man should not live by bread alone but be every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4.
It is inconvenient to accept the scriptures as “the truth” and words that need to be obeyed. How do we see this illustrated?
Five times the scriptures speak out against homosexuality, but many today reinterpret the words written, and change the word of God and say God has made you as a homosexual.
The scriptures tell us that we should observe the Sabbath day (biblically speaking that’s Saturday) but man says, no, we will honor the resurrection which we think took place on Sunday morning; the Sabbath was a punishment placed upon the Jews---biblically speaking that is nonsense. The Sabbath was made for man and Christ said that he was Lord of the Sabbath.
God tells us that He made us in his own likeness and image, yet man denies this and chooses to believe that life came from warm ocean slime and somehow through chemical processes developed into human life over billions of years.
If the scriptures are not the truth given to man from God, then of course ministers, religious people or members of the general public can pick and choose what they want to accept as valid. If the scriptures are the truth, then they present ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ that man has to reason with and reinterpret as he sees fit.
Now that you know the source of truth, the Holy Scriptures, will you find it convenient or inconvenient to obey them?
